Jimmy Sandlin does not follow the Alabama Code of 1975; Constitutional Law; and the Federal Juvenile Code.
He follows the law of Jimmy Sandlin.
Anyone that believes that Sandlin is a good judge does not know the law, either.
Sandlin must be held accountable for his actions. His cases must be investigated, and children returned to their rightful families if they were taken by Sandlin and given to non-parents without lawful justification.
Sandlin does not follow the advice of DHR social workers unless it their decision supports his pre-determined rulings.
Taking a child from a biological parent without just and legal cause is a crime equivalent to kidnapping.
Family court judges decided custody cases between parents with equal rights to a child. Federally trained social workers decide when parental rights should be terminated. Sandlin doesn't want DHR involved in his cases, and specificially excluded them on a pickup order for a child, which was given to a non-parent with no investigation whatsoever by any social worker. Why? Because Sandlin believes because he knows someone, then they must be the better parent. His arrogance and misconduct must end. The citizens of Lauderdale County can't wait until next November to have him removed from office. How many more families will be broken up by that time?
Sandlin must be stopped. Too many lives have been shattered thus far. Sandlin would not get away with his actions in any other place but Alabama. How sad and embarassing for the state.
When Sandlin's misconduct is exposed, it will be on a national level. This will do nothing more than perpetuate the myth that Alabamians are redneck, corrupt and ignorant.
Alabamians--we are smarter than that. See through Sandlin's charade of being the good, Christian judge, and take a look at the cases where he has ruled unjustly. Only then will you truly know the truth.
This are not cases where one party is miffed because they lost a civil suit--we are talking about children being torn away from their parents and given to non-parents. This is an illegal termination of parental rights.
The state should be sued by those injured by Sandln's actions; for he is acting on the state's behalf. The state is aware of what he is doing; therefore, the State is as accountable for Sandlin's actions as Sandlin himself.
Any DHR worker that believes Sandlin makes fair decisions should be investigated, as well. And the social workers who know of Sandlin's misconduct and do not report it should be held accountable as well.
Anyone who takes part in Sandlin's misconduct, including ex-parte communications and pre-determined rulings, are as guilty as Sanlin, too. Attorneys are ethically bound to report judicial misconduct; yet they have done nothing to stop this man.
Its all about the money for the attorneys, isn't it? It should be about the children, and following the laws of the land. What happened to Ethics in Alabama? Where there ever any? Or is it just Lauderdale county's Sandlin and his good ol' boys in Montgomery that are unethical. I'm hoping it is the latter.

Does anyone know if he's planning to run for re-election. His girlfriend doesn't live in town anymore, but I'm told they are still seeing one another. I believe he has done a good job as family court judge; however, his personal life still seems to be a mess so it makes me wonder how effective he will be if he's elected again.

This week I watched Sandlin in a very difficult professional circumstance. He was dealing with those from his own court as well as those from two other judges' courtrooms. Sandlin handled everything with humor and grace. I watched a man who has experienced humility. I hope this translates into compassionate rulings for the families before him, especially the children. I sincerely wish him well in whatever path he follows.

Those two articles were printed in the Times Daily on January 27, 2007 under the title 'Mending Marriages.' I still have a copy of that article because at that time, I had been forced to live with my husband for two years pending divorce. With an alcoholic husband/father also habitually using illegal drugs, neither my children nor I were safe in this destructive environment. This horrible decision to keep our family together was based on Sandlin's logic to save the marriage. In the article, Sandlin declares you can make an unhealthy marriage healthy again. Of the top reasons marriages end in divorce, adultery is listed second. Sandlin is a hypocrite who has failed our community. I do not believe the families he has hurt will ever forgive or forget what he has done to them. Hopefully it will be the catalyst we need for change. If these are the decisions which are left to the judge's discretion, then a state judge has too much power and too much opportunity to abuse that power. A judge needs to justify his/her decisions with reasons in the decree he/she writes. A judge must be held accountable for each decision. (Someone told me that Tennessee judges have to cite numerous reasons for each decision they make, so they have less rulings go to appeal.) Then the judge needs to enforce the decree because that certainly has not been the case with our family. Sandlin has not sanctioned my former husband for failing to abide by the decree. Alabama needs reform. Sandlin has destroyed enough families. My family is still struggling with the result of Sandllin's decisions, and my children are still in counseling. After a six year term, who knows how much damage will be attributed to Sandlin's legacy? People have a right to have a fair, qualified judge in court. Sandlin is not fit for his job as a judge, and he is hurting the children of this community. Someone recently told me that family court judges in Alabama have no formal training specific to families. This must change.

There was once an article in the times daily where judge sandlin was talking about the "no-fault" divorce act. He said he called it "no-thought" divorce. He said he goes into every case thinking every divorce is salvagable. I guess he had "no thoughts" about his own family/marriage and community commitments.

I was being sarcastic. Of course, no man/woman is worth giving up your family and hurting them so deeply. I would not approve of an affair, regardless of the situation. If a marriage is falling apart, I would epect two sensible unselfish adults to approach ending their marriage in a more dignified way (if there is a dignified way). Talk to your husband/wife, try to work it out, and if that is not possible, as a last resort get a divorce. I believe this is what the judge asks families who come to his court to do. I would expect no less from him. I quess no one will ever know what made these two individuals hurt those that love them so much. I quess it true that lust pollutes the mind. But, the damage is done, there's no going back. I pray that the families of these two people will eventually heal and that they will find the happiness they deserve.

Any woman who is "great" or "wonderful" would not involve herself in an adulterous relationship with a married man who has children, a judge no less, over such an extended period of time. She probably fits the same profile of many other insecure women who do not respect themselves. Their affair shows how deeply flawed each of them is. Neither qualifies as "great" or "wonderful." Only someone who is sympathetic to the girlfriend would suggest such a thing.

No one said that his relationship with his girlfriend has ended, she has just moved from the area. I believe they have what is known as a long-distance relationship. This probably means that he won't run for re-election if the relationship lasts. Who knows, maybe he will realize what he's lost and come to his senses. This woman must be something great and wonderful to give up a loving family for.

So how do you know he's trying to make things "right" with his family. Also, if his romantic interest has moved on, how do you know the affair is over? Maybe you can excuse him on the grounds of a mid-life crisis----isn't he about 50--- and became involved with someone about ten years younger? This happen all the time, but there's no excuse for a man (or woman)to hurt so many people. How many people do you suppose have been disappoited with each of them

No one should excuse Sandlin for the pain he has caused so many families. He has NOT served the children of this county. He has been SELF-SERVING. The state has held him up as an example, but Sandlin has been a total failure and embarrassment both professionally and personally. A judge is supposed to have integrity, to be an example for the community. Through his own choices, Sandlin has failed. This community will be more careful to get more information about the next judge who runs for office. Sandlin completely misrepresented himself to the folks who campaigned for him. They must be even more discouraged and disappointed than the rest of us.

Judge Sandlin is a divorced man and I think everything that can be said about his personal relationships has been said. I'm sure he is doing everything he can to mend his relationship with his family. He continues to work hard for the community. No judge can make every person happy that he sees in his court. There are always two sides and one side usually loses. It's true that he and his girlfriend have dissappointed and hurt a lot of people. She worked for the city program whose reputation, sadly, has been compromised. Some of his court decisions are now being questioned. The community has a right to be upset. Hopefully, this will lose its steam and the community can move on to more productive things. There is a lot going on in the world today that desperately needs our attention. I"d like to see everyone move on and concentrate on the future.

Even through all the criticism judge sandlin has received, he has continued to treat everyone with respect. He has done much for this community and continues to work for the children of lauderdale county. The community is very dissappointed that he has made such poor choices in his personal life and may not be willing to forgive or forget very easily. I hope that he will be remembered for all the good he has done and that friends, family, and community will be able to forgive his personal shortcomings. We all have them. Whether he can continue to be effective is anyone's guess. So far, he seems to be doing his job the way he always has. I believe he loves this community and has been honored to have served the children and citizens of lauderdale county.

I heard that the judge and the woman that he left his wife and kids for met while she worked for an organization called CASA that works for abused kids that are in DHR's custody. She did leave that organization, but the affair was going on before she left. This seems like another conflict of interest. I find it hard to believe that she didn't have some influence regarding the cases he presided over both then and when she worked for the city program.

I know everyone keeps saying that because he is a family court judge, he should practice what he preaches. Even if he weren't a family judge, having an affair is still so so wrong. He will never be able to make up for what he has done to his family, friends, and community. The trust that his family and community had will be very hard to gain back, if ever.

It's sad that so many lives have been affected because of the selfish choices of these two individuals. I feel very sorry for his/her family because of his/her deceit and betrayal. Standing before the church asking for forgiveness and professing his love for his family and God really goes over the top since the next day, he was seeing this woman again. I like the comment that Elizabeth Edwards made when she said that although she blamed her husband for his affair with another woman, she believed that women should have more respect for other women. She said it takes a lot to make a family and marriage and another women should know and respect that and that you can't just come to someone's door and say "I'm taking what you have". She said if a woman wants a family, she should go out and make her own. I'm sure this judge told this woman how wicked his wife is and how unhappy he was (don't all men say this when embarking on an affair), but she knew there were children involved and she knew how much hurt would be caused, yet she CHOSE to get involved and continue in this illicit affair. A reliable source has said that the affair had been going on for over a year and a half before his wife and family found out. I'm told that she has now moved out of town. Maybe this will help the families heal and move forward knowing that she is no longer in the area (they won't have to worry about seeing her and bringing up painful memories).

It's interesting to note that since December 2008 there have been 110 posts on this forum. It is obvious that 95 percent of them are from the same person or the same person's family. Obviously you are very disgruntled with this judge's verdic in your case. Since I and your readers only know your side of the case, it's very hard to make a judgement without knowing the side of the law. I am a former social worker with Lauderdale DHR and I can tell you firsthand that judge Sandlin views each and every case thoroughly and on a case by case basis before rendering his decision. I believe he has made DHR a better organization because he demands all the facts. If he's not satisfied that DHR has made it's case, he sends them back out to do their jobs. Obviously this man has made terrible decisions in his personal life. I don't know all the circumstances (just gossip)regarding the breakup of his marriage and don't really care to know (I have all I can handle managing my marriage, family, and job). What I do know is that judge Sandlin has been an excellent family court judge. He is well respected around the state for his work. He has done enourmous things for the children of lauderdale county and I can't and won't dismiss all of this because of his personal misgivings. He, as well as all of us, have to live with our mistakes and ask for God's grace and forgiveness. I've recently heard that he may not seek re-election. I hope the citizens of Lauderdale County work hard to elect a someone of judge Sandlin's caliber. His shoes will be hard to fill.

I would not wish for this person nor any other to go the place mentioned in the previous comment, however, he should mend his ways before its too late for him! He definitely should not be in the position he is in considering all the negatives and moral issues he is facing! I would like to see him defeated should he opt to run for office again. There are many unanswered questions concerning his moral standing in the community. What is his status with the CITY employee?

No judge should leave children at risk pending divorce. A judge should ALWAYS err on the side of caution to protect children. The recent murders are a grisly reminder of what can happen in domestic cases. The fact that Sandlin left a mother and her children at risk, insecure and unstable for two years is inexcusable.

Who knows what has happened to the CITY Program? Is the mistress out of a job yet or are taxpayers still funding her? Did they take trips together at taxpayer expense as they worked together on this Children's Policy Council? $700,000 in grants is a lot of money for the Lauderdale County Children's Policy Council for one year. The attorney general's office should look into this. If Sandlin decides to run for office again, can you imagine the campaign smut available to his oppononents?

The Lauderdale County Children's Policy Council has a brochure on-line. It states clearly that in 2007, the LCCPC received over $700,000 in grants. This does not include donations. Where did this taxpayer money go?
The brochure states that "The Policy Council is under the leadership of Judge Jimmy Sandlin." Rhonda Bogus is also heavily involved in this council.
It would seem logical that the head of the Children's Policy Council would make decisions which are in the best interests of children. Yet this is definitely not the truth.
Under ECONOMIC SECURITY, the brochure refers to "Children growing up in a financially stable home." Sandlin failed to provide my children with economic security when he deliberately denied my children reasonable, regular financial support for two full years pending divorce. After the decree was finally signed, Sandlin only awarded my children $400 per month even though it was proven that their father's minimum income was $120,000 annually without consideration of his assets.
Under HEALTH, the brochure refers to "Physical and mental well-being of children ages 0-19." Sandlin deliberately forced us to live in the same house for two full years pending divorce with their abusive father. It would have been reasonable for a judge to separate us since we asked for this, and we owned another home nearby. Instead, Sandlin chose to inflict harm on my children by denying our reasonable request for exclusive use of the home-place.
Under SAVE, the brochure refers to "Substance abuse and violence education in homes, schools, and communities." Sandlin forced us to live with an active alcoholic and illegal drug abuser who faced felony drug trafficking charges. Helicopters, drug agents, and law enforcement confiscated pounds of illegal drugs, yet Sandlin left my children in this environment.
Taxpayers have a right to know what Sandlin is doing with these funds. Sandlin and Bogus have access to a tremendous amount of taxpayer money not including their salaries. Someone needs to follow the money trail.
I assure you that Sandlin is not doing what is in the best interest of children.

I see at www.ratethecourts.com that Sandlin is listed as being among the top ten worst judges. It is appropriate that those hurt by him in his courtroom speak out now. Investigation continues. Justice will be served, in spite of Sandlin. Those who assisted him in his corruption and injustice in our legal system will also be exposed. It will be awfully hard for them to get Sandlin's slime off themselves, and they will be guilty by association. Those who saw and knew what he was doing, those who said and did nothing, those who support him still will face the consequences of their actions, just like Sandlin. Sandlin's disregard for the law, his flagrant violations of the United States Constitution as a presiding state judge and his violations of ethics might well land him in prison.

I was indeed denied my Constitutional right to an appeal due to a clerical error in the office of the Circuit Court Clerk. After Sandlin delivered his flawed ruling in my divorce, my attorney immediately filed a motion to alter, amend, or vacate the flawed ruling prior to appeal. Sandlin had 90 days to deliver his ruling on that motion. But we did not hear from Sandlin as the 90 days passed. As that deadline approached, my attorney then filed an appeal, but we were told that the deadline for appeal had passed unnoticed. BOTH opposing attorneys swore that neither of them were notified of the ruling by the Circuit Court Clerk's office. Apparently Sandlin had denied the motion to alter, amend, or vacate within 24 hours of its filing. Sandlin did not even bother to read the motion, but the Circuit Court Clerk failed to do her job to notify both attorneys of the ruling. A signed affidavit followed as two reputable, opposing attorneys defended my right to appeal. Obviously Sandlin did not want this his biased, flawed ruling to be reviewed in appellate court. I was told that Sandlin was on the phone back and forth with the appellate court in Montgomery, and I was indeed denied my Constitutional right to appeal. It is relevant to note that the Circuit Court Clerk was speaking directly with my former husband on the telephone at this time, and phone records prove this. Lonnie Anderson cheap looks do not ensure integrity. Sandlin's ruling is flawed beyond belief, and I am so grateful to know that the FBI is investigating our corrupt system of government in Lauderdale County. Those who stand with Sandlin will fall beside him. New standards of government accountability will be initiated, and I predict that they will then be enforced. Our elected officials will be expected to fairly serve the citizens of this county. It is unfortunate that this is not now the case.

I have numerous times reported Sandlin's unethical and illegal behavior in and out of his courtroom to the Attorney General, the Governor, the Alabama State Bar Association, and the Judicial Inquiry Commission. Numerous attorneys are aware that Sandlin does not follow the law. Why have none of these people done anything about Sandlin? Is everyone corrupt? Is everyone afraid of Sandlin? These official need to be held accountable. They have known about Sandlin, yet they have done nothing. Perhaps the people should file a class action civil lawsuit against those who have failed the citizens they were elected to serve, including Sandlin. I have now contacted the FBI to report that each of these individuals and agencies were notified of Sandlin's wrongdoing long ago, yet they failed to act. Investigation is necessary in each instance. Heads should roll.

I would like to hear from anyone who has stayed at Safeplace, and subequently lost custody of their children to the abuser.
I'm especially interested in hearing from Angela Wright as well as the woman and her daughters who so eloquently shared their story of Sandlin's bias and misconduct.
Sandlin is in violation of the Alabama Code of 1975 when he grants custody of children to those with documented histories of abuse (physical or mental.)
Anyone is welcome to share their experiences with me, and I will glady share the case law, Alabama Codes, and Federal Statutes that Sandlin has not followed with anyone who wants to know.
Email: StopSandlin@yahoo.com
Thanks to all who have taken the time to post to this site, as there is great strength in numbers. We, the People, can stop this man.

Judge Sandlin is not above the law, and may be charged by the Attorney General's Office, the FBI or the Department of Justice for deliberately rendering verdicts which are inconsistent with laws--Federal and State.
No public offical is above being prosecuted for corruption or abuse of power (e.g. "color of law").
From http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/civilrights/color.htm:
"...it’s a federal crime for anyone acting under “color of law” willfully to deprive or conspire to deprive a person of a right protected by the Constitution or U.S. law. “Color of law” simply means that the person is using authority given to him or her by a local, state, or federal government agency.
The FBI is the lead federal agency for investigating color of law abuses, which include acts carried out by government officials operating both within and beyond the limits of their lawful authority. Off-duty conduct may be covered if the perpetrator asserted his or her official status in some way".
When dealing with any investigator, you will need to give the facts of the case--leave the emotional out of it. (Don't put in all the drama--cite specific Alabama Codes, Federal Statutes, and case law that Sandlin did not follow. Don't point fingers or inject your own personal bias (as Sandlin does--Ironic that an ethical system protects unethical judges, isn't it?)
Parental rights are protected by the U.S. Constitution. (See ParentalRights.org)Sandlin is supposed to operate by the Code of Alabama 1975, which he does not. This is the same Code that states that the JIC is the only authority to oversee state judges.
That is only until the charges become criminal; then the matter must go to an office which prosecutes--and that can at the State or Federal level.
There's always the Department of Justice, and the ACLU.
Don't forget about the IRS--Sandlin oversees far too many "charitiable" organizations which are being funded by taxpayer dollars, and most likely "donations."
Point being: File a complaint with the JIC. File it again with the AG's office. If your case is serious enough (and mine crossed state lines), then notify the FBI and the Department of Justice.
The link for FBI contacts is:
http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm
Never forget that Federal law trumps State law--except for in the Court of the Jimmy Sandlin.
Are your kids safe?

The Judicial Inquiry Commission is very soon addressing concerns about our local family judge. Their required form may be found on-line. Their address is Judicial Inquiry Commission, P.O. Box 303400, Montgomery, AL, 36130-3400. Their phone number is 334-242-4809 and fax is 334-353-4043. Now is the time to voice your complaints and concerns about our erring judge. The JIC is the only agency in Alabama which has any authority over a state judge, so contact them ASAP to be heard. Lauderdale County citizens should demand that Sandlin be severely sanctioned and removed from office for hurting the families of this county with his rulings (as well as his own family).

I have some inside knowledge of the workings of Judge Jimmy Sandlin. He has used his position to help others who are close to him, as well as himself. He needs to be removed, and very quickly. Gov. Riley is ready to appoint a replacement for him immediately. Please use any influence you have to see that this judge is removed from office.
You may find various links at: http://shoalandaspeaks.blogspot.com/
Shoalanda has helped many by bringing information to light, both concerning jurists and those who have appeared before them. Feel free to ask for her help if you need it. She asks nothing in return, but I would ask that you click on her advertising links in order to keep her going.
Thanks to everyone for exposing Judge Jimmy Sandlin's favoritism, etc.

It is absolutely true that Sandlin had a personal mission to lower the divorce rate. Pull up the Times Daily 1-21-07 article on-line about "Mending Marriages." Sandlin goes on and on about his personal goal to save marriages in Lauderdale County, blah, blah, blah. He has lied and lied and lied. Sandlin also held meetings among ministers and attorneys to develop a ministerial council to scrutinize any couple who was married in a church who chose to divorce. How legal do you think THAT idea is? It looks like Sandlin is finally going to pay for the damage he has done to Lauderdale County families in his courtroom.

Anyone concerned about Sandlin must read the article posted today at ShoalandaSpeaks. It addresses the FBI and Attorney General's investigation into corruption by judges and attorneys who have not followed the laws relating to divorce and child custody cases. Attorney General Troy King's site is also accessible through ShoalandaSpeaks. ANYONE and EVERYONE who is concerned about what happened to them in Jimmy Sandlin's courtroom is encouraged to immediately contact the office of the attorney general. It appears as though all of Sandlin's questionable rulings are being reviewed by the state and the federal authorities...finally. I suspect that all those who supported Sandlin will also be investigated for corruption. Maybe there is justice in America after all, in spite of Jimmy Sandlin. Sandlin might well end up in jail.

Whether he is technically supervising the CITY program or not, it is a gross violation of propriety for him to be making decisions that affect children (sending them to this alternative school) when that decision also affects the livelihood of his girlfriend. He should separate himself from all decisions involving CITY immediately.

CITY staff salaries are public record as they are state positions subject to state grade-level systems. All salaries fall within a certain range and are based only on an employee's progress through the system. Each person's salary is commensurate with their tenure and the state grading system, and no one has a salary that would be considered questionable.
The actual cost for all CITY Programs is also public record. Lauderdale County's CITY Program cost less than any other program in the state for the last fiscal year, even with start-up costs. Ultimately, the cost was far less than 500,000 for the Lauderdale County program.
The at-risk youths served by CITY would only be served otherwise by out-of-town facilities which are run by the Department of Youth Services. This is because of the severity of their offenses, status of expulsion, or other issues.
Statewide efforts have saved the program for the students although all Lauderdale County employees will be laid off. The employees didn't benefit from efforts to save the program, but hopefully the students will in the long run.
All cuts in funding, whether PACT or other worthy investments, are certainly devastating to those they affect.

I'm not sure if anyone should determine who is a good and decent person. I believe that God determines that. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion of the man but God knows what is in your heart as well. Of the question "What Would Jesus Do.? I know Jesus will forgive. That's what he asks all of his children to so.

Judge Jimmy Sandlin has traveled to Montgomery to ensure funding for the local C.I.T.Y. Program. Sandlin has an intimate relationship with the Director of the CITY Program, so he obviously has a conflict of interest. Current articles report that CITY Director, Rhonda Bogus, has a salary which is "off the charts." Reportedly the CITY Program serves 33 "at-risk" youths working to earn a GED. The cost of this CITY program to taxpayers is FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ANNUALLY. There are already other local programs serving "at-risk" youths. One example, Florence High School uses many of its resources to serve the kids who are at risk. The PACT Program or the Prepaid Affordable Tuition Contract was designed to assist families in affording college tuition. As a result of the failing market, PACT is now saying it will not be able to do this even though countless families bout into this program for a generation. My family bought PACT contracts for three children. My children have been successful in school. They are good students. They are community and church volunteers. They are great assets to our community. Now that it is time to for my children to go to college, the benefits of the PACT Program are lost. Why don't Alabama legislators take the $500,000 out of the CITY Program to fund the deserving kids who bought into the state PACT Program? Perhaps that $500,000 would be better spent in this way. Sandlin's overwhelming bias is showing AGAIN.

First, Sandlin must be removed from office whether that is by his own resignation or his removal. Then, every questionable ruling he has rendered must be reviewed by a judge or a panel of judges who actually follows the law. Sandlin just keeps on hurting the families of Lauderdale County. He keeps on creating a bigger and bigger mess. I have been told that one cannot sue an Alabama judge, but one can file a civil suit against him. Maybe that is what it will take.

The character of a judge is rightly held to intense scrutiny because of the power associated with the office. Sandlin knew that when he took office. It IS other people's business when the character of a judge is in question. Questionable character trickles down to every decision before him. It IS the business of the citizens to know about the illegal, immoral, and unethical acts which our judge has ADMITTED to. Someone is using the terms "falsehood" and "accusation" wrongly. How can it be false when he admitted to it? No one is throwing stones here. Sandlin created this mess. He broke the law, and he is doing a terrible job for the families of Lauderdale County. People should be challenging the status quo because this is all wrong. This is not about "sin." This is about the laws Sandlin has sworn to uphold. The man is a judge who broke the LAW! We should not have to tolerate this.

In Alabama, adultery is a crime. Sandlin chose to break this law and publicly admitted that he did so. According to the Canons as written in the comments below, Sandlin should be removed from office or resign. Those are the rules; HE CHOSE not to follow them. There sure are a lot of stones being thrown at this good and decent man who has sinned. (But, I am happy to see there are so many people without sin.) This Judge has done as least as great a job in his professional/public life as the mistake in his personal life. If someone replaces him (I hope not) he/she will also have sinned because he/she will also be a broken child of God as we are all. Adultery is a sin but only God knows if it is somehow a greater sin than many others. I do know it is not so big a sin that God can't forgive it. This matter is between Jimmy and God and God will work it out. We should be focused on whether he has done a good job, and the truth is, he has done a great job. May God forgive all of us for our many sins private and public

This forum is no different than any other, and is boringly predictable. People who don't want to focus on their own challenges and imperfections have a thrilling time berating others. Don't fret. It won't be long before you can subject the next judge who comes along to the same treatment. These cycles are just like seasons.
It is so much harder - and not one bit of fun - to work on ourselves and mind our "own business". No fun! Not when we can throw out falsehoods and accusations and judgements with hardly a bit of energy.
Has no one learned that we just love to build them up so we can tear them down? It's the national pasttime for goodness sakes - every tv talk show and talk radio station is making tons of your money off this sick game. Well, I don't have time to waste on that.
I say let's all just go ahead and put ourselves out there. Admit our faults. Confess our horrible shortcomings. Oh how messy we all are!
Then we might get a forum in our very own name. And then we might learn a bit about NOT fighting back, about allowing anybody to say any crazy thing. And then, we all might grow up.

It is completely incorrect to say that Sandlin's private life should be private. Sandlin is required to adhere to the Canons of Judicial Ethics: "Canon 1. A judge should uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary. An independent and honorable judge is indispensable to justice in our society. A judge should participate in establishing, maintaining, and enforcing, and should himself observe, high standards of conduct..." " A judiciary of integrity is one in which judges are known for their probity, fairness, honesty, uprightness, and soundness of character." "...they must comply with the law..." "...violation of the Canons diminishes public confidence in the judiciary and thereby does injury to the system of government under the law." Canon 2. "A judge should avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all his activities. A. A judge should respect and comply with the law and should conduct himself at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary." "Public confidence in the judiciary is eroded by irresponsible or improper conduct by judges. A JUDGE MUST AVOID ALL IMPROPRIETY AND APPEARANCE OF IMPROPRIETY. HE MUST EXPECT TO BE THE SUBJECT OF CONSTANT SCRUTINY. HE MUST, THEREFORE, ACCEPT RESTRICTIONS ON HIS CONDUCT THAT MIGHT BE VIEWED AS BURDENSOME BY THE ORDINARY CITIZEN AND SHOULD DO SO FREELY AND WILLINGLY." When a judge violates these canons, he is subject to charges for ethics violations. Clearly, Sandlin behaved in manner inconsistent with these canons. If he does not resign, he should be removed from office by the Judicial Inquiry Commission.

Where did all the votes go? This "judge" should be judged by our community, and please don't use the Scripture "judge not that you be not judged" which I certainly believe in the context in which it was written. However, we are also given for our benefit "by their fruits you shall know them." We can see where his mind and heart are by the immoral life he is living.

How smug for one to assume that I am not already a community and church volunteer, because I certainly am. I am educated, and I have also raised exceptional children. Perhaps this is why I have the courage to stand up to this man. Sandlin inflicted harm on my innocent children. I did no wrong. My children did no wrong. Sandlin's decisions hurt my children irreparably. This is supported by a credible counselor. Sandlin publicly admitted that he broke the law as an adulterer. There are laws and ethics which Sandlin must follow as a judge. Sandlin himself chose to break those laws. He has no business wearing a robe and judging the families before him. Sandlin has done enough damage to the credibility of those on the bench. Those who support him should continue to be his personal friends, but Sandlin must accept the consequences of his own behavior. He did lie. He did cheat. He did break the law. He must go. I am not judging and condemning so much as working to implement change for the good of this community. Sandlin is hurting families. Someone needs to stand up to him because his choices, his actions, his decisions have hurt this community. And FYI, Sandlin recently told my attorney that he IS indeed running for re-election. So it sounds as if he is still lying to someone.

Before any more stones are thrown it might be a good idea to get some of the facts straight. Ms. Bogus was not hired by Judge Jimmy Sandlin. Judge Sandlin was in no way a part of the interview or hiring process. Ms. Bogus is supervised by the Alabama C.I.T.Y. Program State Director and the program falls under the Alabama State Board of Education Post Secondary Education. Judge Sandlin does not oversee the C.I.T.Y. program in any way other than referring children to the program. The Juvenile Probation Officers recommend children into the C.I.T.Y. program and Judge Sandlin makes the decision regarding placement. This program has been very successful and is designed to help our youth become productive citizens of our community and society rather than going to prison or worse. Judge Sandlin does care about the children of this community. He has set up several programs designed to serve children and their families; The Children's Policy Council, and The Family Policy Council, just to name two. Regardless of this man's personal situation, he is an enormous asset to the families of this community. Instead of spending so much of your time and energy on judging and condeming, you might be better served to get involved in volunteer or charity work and do something constructive. So, stop sitting back in judgement and go out there and make a difference in your community. Judge Sandlin has.

Jimmy is not arrogant about his mistakes and does not plan to seek re-election and has never stated to anyone that he was planning to. Rumors are a 2 way street. I know he will do the right things, in the right time, for everyone. No one, except his family, is more disappointed than he is in himself. He is not on drugs and he is not insane. He made a human mistake and is paying for that, even without the public lynching. You can TRUST my comment on this.

I contacted that HALT organization months ago about Sandlin's ethics violations, and they said they could not help in any way. That is a waste of time.
FACT: Sandlin has admitted in front of hundreds of people in a public place that he had an extramarital affair.
FACT: Sandlin's behavior warrants removal from office according to the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics. Anyone can read these canons on-line and see that Sandlin chose to behave in a way that justifies his removal from office. He has no one but himself to blame for this public reaction to remove him from office. If he were doing a good job, it might be different, but he is not. He is failing the citizens of this county. The children of Lauderdale County deserve so much better.
FACT: The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission is the only group with any authority over a presiding state judge. Their address is: Judicial Inquiry Commission, P.O. Box 303400, Montgomery, AL 36130-3400. One may print a copy of the official complaint form from their web-site and get it notarized. One might also send it to the Alabama State Bar. Even though they cannot sanction a presiding judge, they will keep it in his attorney file.
The local newspaper has failed to print 'Letters to the Editor' about this subject. They have failed to report that formal complaints were filed against Sandlin. They certainly printed stories about Sandlin's efforts to 'MEND MARRIAGES.' Are they protecting Sandlin?

The church of which Jimmy Sandlin is a member teaches that a person should live a clean and good moral life. He has been subjected to this teaching and apparently at one time agreeed with it. He certainly knows that what he has been engaged in personally is not acceptable. This is no reflection on the church's teachings, but rather on his own failings.

Sandlin must be removed from office now! He is so arrogant that he is telling people he is running for RE-ELECTION! Sandlin DESTROYED his OWN family! Look at what he did to the people of his own church! Either he is insane, or he is on drugs because no sane person could rule the way he does or make the decisions he does. This man HURTS decent, innocent people and CHILDREN who have done nothing wrong. Sandlin supports anyone who might help his own career, no matter what they have done. Sandlin uses his power to inflict harm. His 'career' needs to end as soon as possible. He has already hurt enough children. Why should he get to rule for two more years? The citizens of this county need to act. Sandlin has no right to tell any law abiding citizen what to do because "JUDGE" Sandlin himself broke the laws of Alabama, and he knew it when he did it. He is not just a hypocrite; he is despicable. Somebody needs to put HIM on the witness stand. Sandlin gave custody of an innocent 4 year old boy over to his molester even though there was overwhelming evidence of it. Sandlin will be held accountable for his life-wrecking decisions. We'll see where that lands him. How dare he think he will get re-elected? The local newspaper sure ran stories to support Sandlin. Why aren't they writing the truth about what Sandlin is doing to Lauderdale County citizens?

I approve of judge Sanlin's OVERALL professional performance. Just as he does NOT make final judgments on ONE mere aspect of circumstances, nor should we judge him. I have no doubt that Judge Sandlin will use his own personal experiences as a building block towards helping other's, just as he's done in the past. Anyone who really knows him, realizes his compassion towards making a positive difference in the lives of others and his community. It is easy to sit safely in the shadows, doing nothing except watching other's put themselves out there, risking judgment and ridicule for their efforts. At least he cares enough to take that risk. He is not oblivious to his personal mistakes and has PUBLICLY taken ownership of them. THAT is also MORE than most people are willing to do, and it remains consistent with his heart and character, as a human being. Jimmy has never found joy in the misery of others, but instead offers hope, with supportive guidance and tangible choices. As a member of his community, I am capable and eager to offer Jimmy the same hope he has so willingly & consistently extended to us. My heart goes out to the entire Sandlin family and I remain grateful for all their efforts and contributions. Florence has benefited from both their personal and professional generosities.

I do not believe ANY ONE in our community has been "Beating" this sorry man's family as was implied in an earlier comment. Those of us who treasure family and family values see him, (certainly not his family), as a miserable excuse for a judge who campaigned on the promises of upholding family values. How can he counsel couples who are contemplating divorce when he himself has failed so completely?

I have known Judge Jimmy Sandlin both professionally and personally, most of his life and ALL of my life. He is an exceptional, well qualified judge and paramount among human beings. His own life challenges, defeats, and successes make up the backbone of his compassion and empathy for others. I wouldn't want a judge who has lived in a bubble protected life, not knowing heart break, struggles, or real life challenges and consequences. I hate to think I was raised in a community that chooses to beat a man (and his family) when they are heart broken and devastated, especially when they have done so much to build up and console others.
Jimmy will never cast the first stone, but God knows he has stood as a target before everyone and anyone who is willing to throw theirs in hast.

I am a single mother of a 3 year old. After my daughter was born, her father went almost a full year and did not pay child support. After keeping on with DHR, they FINALLY filed a motion to have this set for a Contempt hearing with Judge Sandlin and he ordered him to pay and let him go. My ex paid for about 4 months then again went about 6 more months and did not pay anything, and again the same runaround with DHR and we finally got a second Contempt hearing set. Judge Sandlin again let him walk free and my ex told him he did not have a job is why he wasn't paying (he quit) and Judge Sandlin's exact words to him were "well, son, just work on getting you a job, and go ahead and just pay what you can today" I was outraged! Let me tell you, he is for the men! Did it not occur to him that "I" cannot just quit my job, and that "I" have to support my child, but it's ok for the dad to not help right?! He is NOT looking out for the welfare of the children, if he was, he would get the deadbeat dads off the street! And here I am again, have been almost two months without a child support check and this time I think I'll tell the Judge, "well how about I just quit my job too and get on welfare, and "YOUR" taxes can support my child!" Judge Smith was a fair judge, this man is not!

Rhonda Bogus may be the only supporter Sandlin has left. She should never have accepted a job from the man she was having an adulterous affair with, no matter how qualified she is for the job. I heard Sandlin recently traveled to Montgomery to lobby for continued funding for her job as CITY Director. In spite of statewide budget cuts, Bogus will continue to be paid for her "services."
The citizens of this county should get permits to picket/protest at the courthouse. These two should not continue to receive paychecks at taxpayer expense. This is no longer just his personal life. A judge must follow ethics and morals. It is a requirement of his job. Neither Sandlin nor Bogus deserves to continue in their jobs after the way they have behaved.
If anyone thinks Sandlin is good to kids, why don't they talk to Sandlin's own kids?

This man is a tyrant. He takes one side of a case into his chambers and will not even allow the other side to speak. He threatens witnesses that do not agree with his pretrial decission. This little man in a black robe tried to threaten me but he is the one that should be afraid. I will tell the truth about his court to anyone who listens. Lawyers in his court bow and scrape to him and admit he is not following the law or correct procedures but "he wears the black robe", if you must go before him find a lawyer outside of Colbert of Lauderdale county or you have little chance of justice. Better yet try to go to court in another county if you have a really important issue, especially if the other party has more money than you do. The DHR counselers, school officials, and even the Lawyers that are supposed to represent your child are all connected with this little man. They are on the same boards, or are directors of programs he is over or are socially connected to him, or all of the above.

A form may be acquired through the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission. On this form, one may file an official complaint against a judge. After the form is filled out, it must be notarized (this service is provided free at most banks). The address is Judicial Inquiry Commission, 401 Adams Avenue, Suite 720, Montgomery, AL, 36104. Their information is also on-line. Troy King's address is Office of the Attorney General, AL State House, 11 S. Union St., 3rd Floor, Montgomery, AL, 36130. Governor Bob Riley's address is State Capitol, 600 Dexter Avenue, Montgomery, AL, 36130. Senator Bobby Denton's office is Room 719, 11 S. Union St., Montgomery, AL, 36130. These officials should know what Sandlin is doing in his courtroom. Sandlin must be held accountable. On-line, the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics require that a judge avoid even the appearance of impropriety. A judge is also required to remain impartial and unbiased. There are many more canons which a judge must follow. When a judge violates the Canons of Judicial Ethics, he is violating the law. An ethical violation for a judge is a criminal violation. (Remember Guy Hunt's conviction?)What Sandlin has inflicted on these families should be reported to officials. If anyone needs help with this, contact P.O. Box 611, Florence, AL, 35631.

I am a single Mother who has taken care of her child by herself, my son's Father got behind on child support and many other thing's. When I fianlly tried to take my son's father to court, My son's Father decided to take me to court for custody to get out of paying. I aggreed to drop child support if he would drop to drop custody so we done this. A couple of months later my son's father did not follow court rules, so I was going to charge him with Contempt of Court. My son's father decided to file custody papers to get out of this also. I am a very good mother that gives my son what he wanted and needs and always does thing's with him. A lot more than a lot of parent's do. I LOVE my son with all my Heart, and would do anything in this world for him. I do without to give to him. For some reason after all thing's we had against this man including laws for the state of Alabama saying he could not have custody of a child. And Nothing that proved anything against me,or that I was a Bad Parent in any way, MR. SANDLIN ruled for custody to be given to this man. Please tell me why this Judge did this to me or my Family? Then When we walked out of the court room with my attonery right there, MY son's stepmother attacted me in the hall and in the parking lot. The Jugde did nothing about this neither, He just let them get away with everything. This is not fair and has runied my LIFE! Thank You MR. Sandlin!! Angela Wright cs# 94-238.04

Judge Sandlin denied my son to have a GAL. My son told me what had happened to him and I did the best I could and went through the appropriate Governmenet agencies to get the proper help for my son and with his father having family at the Lauderdale County courthouse and Lauderdale County DHR it has made it difficult. I have been harrassed by law enforcement. I have been pulled over like on something on movies. I have had a lauderdale county cop draw a gun on me and be very ugly when there was no need. I have contacted Troy King. I have written Dr. Walley over DHR. I feel my son's case was very poorly handled. Everything was turned around on me. I thought when a child tells you someone's hurting him you get them help. When I finally got evidence on video Monica Haddock messed the video picture up. I have notorized letters from teachers that testified. I have hospital and police reports and reports from the National CHildrens advocacy center. All I want is my son to be safe, happy, and a productive christian future. My son's father has a lengthy criminal background as well as a lengthy history of domestic violence me and my son has had to go to safeplace because of him in the past. When I was pregnant with my son his father was abusive to me. I left him when he was cheating on me with his now wife and chose to be a single mother becasue I didnt want my son growing up thinking that was how you treat women. If Judge Sandlin would have investigated my case he would know all this. I wasnt allowed to bring this up for some reason. I was paraded around his court room like a circus. I was made out to look like a crazy woman. But I was doing the best I could, without going to prison for murder. Noone knows how they would handle hearing what I heard from my son on December 13 2006. And I hope whoever reading this never does know how I feel. NO child should go through this. I raised my son 4 and a half years by myself, worked 3 jobs and went to college, we attended Woodmont Baptist until I lost custody. I was inactive in church for about a year and a half because I lost faith in mankind. I am have now been active in church for a year and try to keep strong for my son. No one should have to go through what my son and I have went through.

Governor Bob Riley's 9-16-08 Proclamation 'Step Up for Kids' (on-line) states clearly that "all children should grow up free from abuse, violence, and the devastation of alcohol and drugs." In person, my children told Sandlin that their father was a drunk. Sandlin refused to do anything about it. Sandlin also ignored my testimony under oath about the horrible environment my children and I were living in because of their father's habitual drunkenness. Sandlin knew that my children were at risk at home because of their father's involvement in illegal drugs. Sandlin did NOTHING about this. Sandlin left these children in this environment FOR YEARS. Sandlin hurt my family as much or more than their drunk and drugged father because this went on with Sandlin's approval. SANDLIN MUST BE STOPPED.

IF Sandlin followed the law, he would not have appointed his mistress to her government job. ADULTERY IS A CRIME IN ALABAMA. If Sandlin does not follow the law in his personal life, if he has no morals in his personal life, if he has no ethics in his personal life, if he mistreats his own family in his personal life, how can any of us expect anything different from him in a courtroom? It is ludicrous for any person to support a JUDGE who knowingly breaks the law himself. This man must go.

Judge Sandlin is a capable judge who puts forth supreme effort to ensure that the parties exhaust all realistic possiblities of settlment before forcing them to go through the ordeal of a trial. He works in the most contentious and emotional area of the law, making decisions that will ALWAYS anger one party, and often leaves both parties feeling they have somehow been cheated. I am a bit concerned that people may place too much confidence/weight in opinions provided by litigants. Much of the commentary so far seem like "sour grapes". I am especially bothered by the fact that people seem to continue to make allusions to the Judge's peronal life. His ability to apply law to the facts is the basis for analyzing his abilities. When you disagree with the law, realize that he is bound by the law and cannot do anything to change it. I do not feel that everything he does in his court room complies with the requirement of our legal system, but often it comes from an over-zealous desire to see the parties reach a resolution, hoping that both can find something to live with. He is also an able administrator. He makes decisions in a timely fashion, not so swiftly as to not have considered the case and all its possibilities, nor so delayed that the parties are not served justice. He is clearly concerned that the parties do what is best for their children, but does not step between the attorneys and their clients when decisions need to be made. I think the fact he lets the attorney's present their cases and then makes a fair assessment of those presented facts.
I again request that people take with a grain of salt any opinion which seems clear to have come from people who have had a case decided by him, because the people most likely to comment are those whom he has angered in an extreme way.

I have been working in the social service sector for many years, and I can say that Judge Sandlin has done more positive things for our system than any other Judge I have known. He is a hard worker and has many good ideas that he implements with good results. I have been in his Court almost every week for the past several years and heard how he deals with families and children, and I can compare this with how other Judges before him have dealt with people. Honestly, he is compassionate and thoughtful in his approach to very difficult problems. Making these decisions is really not a job that I would want, and no one knows all the sides to any story. Even when I know many aspects of a situation, I have a very difficult time knowing what is the best solution because family situations are very complex and emotional. Many social workers call him 24/7 and he is always patient with this. It is true that the Judge's personal situation is at the center of a lot of controversy at the moment, but I do think that he continues to make fair decisions and work hard. Many, many Judges do not do that - I know. I have also heard other Judges and social workers around the state say good things about Judge Sandlin because they know how "lazy" Judges can actually be and how hard he tries to be fair. Personal problems we all have. I think he is doing his job.

It is my personal opinion that Judge Sandlin should be disbarred completely. He has treated my family abysmally over the course of more than three years, during which my mother filed for divorce from my father.
Sandlin's archaic adherence to a policy of "family first" prevented my mother from separating from a mentally and emotionally abusive, financially controlling, alcoholic husband, and forced us (myself, my mother and two sisters) to remain living in the same house with him for a year, even though we owned another home not far away. That year was tense, harsh, and more emotionally wretched for three teenage girls than anyone can know.
Sandlin also has failed to acknowledge any testimony from myself or my sisters. Apparently, he does not find the wants, needs or opinions of three teenagers - no matter if they are in college or near to it, honor students, mature beyond their years, and perfectly aware of the gravity of the situation - to be of any importance in his "grown-up" world. On one occasion when we very clearly and reasonably outlined what financial assistance we required from out father, which we were unable to persuade him to give us, Sandlin scoffed at us, and asked "Don't all little girls have a way of getting daddies to do exactly what they want? Can't you just bat your eyelashes and say 'please daddy with sugar on top'?" When we protested that no, we did not, and such an idea was outrageous, he laughed it off, saying "Why don't you go work on him just a little more, he'll give in." I was furious that a man with a daughter my age, who claimed to have our best interest at heart would dare say such a thing to us. I and my sisters are young women to be reckoned with, and we will not lie down and be trampled by a pompous chauvinist like Sandlin.
I also would like to mention Sandlin's own hypocrisy. He claims to be unbiased in divorce court, but he rarely rules in favor of a mother in cases of child custody. He also runs on a platform of family values and old-fashioned morality, yet he was recently caught in an extramarital affair with a 22 year-old, to whom he granted a job in the court system. Not only is adultery still a crime in the state of Alabama, but granting his mistress a job is also illegal. This incident absolutely infuriates me, because adultery is exactly one of the complaints my mother held against my father, and which Sandlin conveniently ignored.
Judge Jimmy Sandlin is not someone who should ever be placed in a position of power or influence. He either cannot or will not rule without bias in any court decision, nor does he deserve such a position if he considers himself to be above the law which he is sworn to uphold.

I attend court (Judge Sandlin's court room) with some of these ladies and I am always amazed how Judge Sandlin listens to both parties involved in a domestic dispute and how fairly he rules.
A family member of mine recently went through a divorce and Judge Sandlin treated BOTH the Plaintiff and the Defendant with the same respect and fair rulings.

Sandlin devastated my family in his courtroom. He ignored the pleas of my children. He was completely biased with no justification whatsoever. Sandlin played with a paper clip through the whole trial and ignored the heartfelt emotion of the family before him.
I was told that Sandlin quietly obtained his own divorce in another county. Did he take the Trans-Parenting course he requires every parent before him to take? the mediation? the counseling? Are the rules different for him?
My attorney told me that Sandlin was not following the law in our case, and when my attorney told him so, Sandlin said he did not care.
Sandlin has no right to decide anything for anybody since he destroyed his own family.
This man is a complete hypocrite after everything he told us when he ran for office....family man indeed.

In Alabama, adultery is against the law! That is a fact! If our judge is not following the laws of this state himself, how can he apply the law to any other? How can ANYONE express support for a JUDGE who does not follow the law? After what he has done to his own family, he should resign in disgrace. Clearly, this small, arrogant man does not have the courage to do so. We, The People, will gather to rid our county of the menace of Sandlin in a judge's robe!

Surely any honest opinion of Judge Sandlin takes into consideration his extra-marital affair with a staff member of the CITY program. The affair is not alleged - it was admitted to by Judge Sandlin to a number of people on more than one occasion. It has resulted in the breakup of his marriage and his family. In his case he chose to subject his wife and two children to the same kind of mental anguish and torture that he sees on a day-to-day basis, and this over an extended period of time. It is public knowledge that he spoke from the pulpit at Highland Baptist Church acknowledging mistakes and making a public declaration that he was repentant and a changed man. All the while, however, he was still seeing his mistress/co-worker in extra-marital settings. How does this square up with being a Family Court Judge? How can one overlook these actions by Judge Sandlin when making comments on whether or not he is still able to function as a Family Court Judge? Is he an ethical, moral and upstanding citizen of Lauderdale County and should he continue to be allowed to pass judgement in Family Court?

I believe that on several occasions that Judge Sandlin has already made his decision on what he is going to do with a case before he gets all of the facts. I also believe from having a case in his court that he does not really hear what the children have to say and that he does not in force the guidelines with both parents because of his favortism with the clients lawyer. I feel like he has used his home life as examples for alot of his cases including ours and from what I have seen his home life is not as perfect as he would like for it to be. So, how can he sit in his court room and tell other parents how to handle the situation when he can not even handle his own. I am tired of hearing him state that he sees this everyday in his courtroom how children play each parent against the other. That is not always the case. Our case started out with abuse to the children and the children sit in his courtroom and cried and held on to me when he said he did not see any abuse in the home and the children had to go back and live with their mother. The children stated to him that they did not want to go back there and told him what their mother was doing and he stated that they were just playing the parents against one another.
We now have been in the custody battle for 2 years now and nothing has been resolved because one child still want to come and live with us so they can be in a stable and comfort home. The other child believes that nothing can be done and we have lost contact with the child because of Judge Sandlin stating that would be best. We never got a trial we for 2 years come to court and sit for 2 to 3 hours and nothing resolved. We talked to a mediator a couple of times but never given a trial date. Nothing gets resolved by just a mediator. Judge Sandlin never let anyone speak on the behalf of the children. A friend of ours was going through the same situation, and Judge Suttle was there Judge and within 6 months they had a trial and the Fathers have a right too.children were heard and it was settled within 6 months. We were just asking for our children to be heard and it has never happened properly. The mother is not always the best for the children. A father has rights too when it comes to his children. There is nothing that states a father can not be granted custody of his children.

I have known Judge Sandlin for many years and have worked closely with him on various projects. I find him to be patient, professional and fair both in and out of the courtroom. Throughout his term of ofice he has maintained his love of this community and his committment of service to families. Judge Sandlin is held in high regard on a state level and is receives continuous praise for his work, knowledge, and vision.
My family is a victim of divorce and I wish we had be so fortunate to have been before Judge Sandlin. His is a difficult task. Someone always loses in court proceedings and feelings are hurt. Bitter comments are said in anger and reputations are tarnished. Judge Sandlin handles criticism with the grace and class of a true gentleman.
When dealing with juveniles, Judge Sandlin's heart is truly in their best interest. I have seen his genuine concern for young people in our community and have watched him work tirelessly to ensure they have a chance to reform and better their lives. On numerous occasions I have talked directly to the young people Judge Sandlin has counseled and watched miracles happen as they realize that they can, indeed, change their lives and become healthy, happy, productive adults. Most judges do not recall the names of the ones that stand before them, but Judge Sandlin can call them by first name and he diligently keeps up with their progress.
Lauderdale County should be honored to have such a man as Judge Jimmy Sandlin on the bench and should let him know it!

I have been to this court on several occasions and I have read several of this Judge's rulings. I find that he is fair and follows the law. This is family court and their are NO winners in family court. Someone is going to leave unhappy if the Judge has to make decisions for them (as evidenced by other surveys). Our concern should be whether or not he is following the law. He will answer for his personal life from a higher source than us.

Judge Sandlin is truly an asset to our community. In cases involving juveniles, he is both firm and compassionate. In custody matters, Judge Sandlin has consistently focused on what is in the best interest of the child. Though I have disagreed with him on occasion, at no time did I consider his ethics on the bench to be anything less than impeccable.

Judge Jimmy Sandlin's actions and rulings appear to disregard the laws of our state.
Sandlin pushed his personal agenda in our community to "save marriages." Yet Sandlin's own behavior is entirely hypocritical. It has been rumored now for a full year that Sandlin has not only been involved in a long term extramarital affair, it is also rumored that he appointed his mistress as director of one of his programs at taxpayer expense.
The Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics require that a judge avoid even the appearance of impropriety. Sandlin's behavior appears to be openly and publicly improper, yet no authority has yet addressed this situation.
Judge Jimmy Sandlin utterly failed to protect my children or myself from an abusive situation during two entire years pending divorce. Even though we owned a second home nearby, Sandlin denied us exclusive use of the home-place and regular financial support. For two full years, we suffered in the same home with an abusive, alcoholic, drug addicted husband and father.
No person has ever claimed that I was anything less than a good wife and mother for 18 years. Without question, I am an excellent parent who has raised exceptional and academically gifted children, yet Sandlin verbally threatened to make my children wards of the state if I could not work this out with my husband without help from the court. This was an unconscionable abuse of a judge's power.
Sandlin overlooked my husband's repeated, admitted perjury under oath, admissions of tax fraud, bank fraud, felony drug trafficking, alcohol abuse, and drug abuse, Sandlin allowed my husband to pour out 400 gallons of illegal, home-made wine. Sandlin disregarded my children's verbal and written statements, the recommendations of the guardian-ad-litem, the pediatrician's report, and my own truthful testimony. Sandlin demonstrated inexplicable bias toward my husband.
Sandlin failed to follow the law to sanction my former husband who was in contempt of court on almost every item in the decree for many months.
Sandlin failed to modify joint custody as it was proven that their father spent only spent one hour per week with his children in a period of seven months, and he only spent one night with his children in a period of seven months after the divorce. He did not provide a home in which to spend time with his children.
My attorney told me that Sandlin's designation of "joint custody" was not even a correct legal term, yet Sandlin failed to correct this even though it was presented to him several times through two Rule 59 motions and a subsequent trial to modify custody.
Sandlin acknowledged that 223 acres of the 300 acre family farm was designated as our marital homestead, yet Sandlin failed to distribute this in the division of property. My husband admitted under oath that he had filed two different statements DATED WITH THE SAME DATE and presented in court, one for his bank declaring his worth to be in the millions of dollars and one for MY attorney which declared his worth to be in the thousands of dollars. Sandlin chose to use the admittedly falsified declaration of my husband's worth in the thousands of dollars as the basis for the division of marital property.
A clerical error denied my children and me our Constitutional right to an appeal.
Sandlin's outrageous rulings must be reviewed. His actions are hurting families in Lauderdale County. His unethical, unreasonable, and potentially illegal actions must be reconsidered. I do not believe that Sandlin should be allowed to finish his term as an elected judge.
The authorities/ officials of Alabama must acknowledge the complete failure of this pitiful excuse for a judge, and this should be recorded for posterity.

This judge has no concept of Alabama Law whatsoever. He held a custody hearing, without proper notice to the other party, denying the parent the right to counsel and cross-examination, and disregarded real evidence while making a ruling based on hearsay and speculation.
This man has no business dealing in cases involving children.
An attorney who appears before this judge quite often, says "The Constitution means nothing in this judge's courtroom. He wears the black robe, and he is the judge and the jury. Whatever he says--goes!" Adding that, Sandlin is protected by "State Sovereignty" and again, can do whatever he pleases.
He can until We, the People, put a stop to his unethical and illegal practices.
